"When I started my health journey with My1fitlife it was May, 2019. I was always tired, sick, had brainfog, felt depressed and couldn't even walk up the stairs in my own house without breathing hard. It was really a fluke that I discovered the challenge advertised by My1FitLife at the very beginning of May. Something made me jump on it, I don't know what, but I loved the thought of making something of the summer. At that point I had over 150 lbs to lose and couldn't even stand on my knees or get up from the floor without help.
I set 5 goals that challenge; to lose weight, walk to a certain viewpoint at our summer house, go swimming, take a trip and publish a book. Longtime and lofty goals (some of them)! Well, I lost weight, walked further than I've gone in years, went swimming, took a trip (3, actually) and am close to publishing a book. That first challenge was like a jump start in my life. All of a sudden I HAD ENERGY!!! And lots of it!
I started with workouts in my kitchen, jumping up and down, sweating like a LUNATIC. For the first 4 weeks I could only go 15 minutes per day. Now I do 30-45 minutes cardio 6 days per week plus strength. I ate CLEAN. Cleared out my pantry, fridge and freezer and DETOXED. Oh, my the headaches and sluggishness... But I pushed through those bowls of oatmeal, hummus and veggies and discovered that I could do it. And I LOVED IT. I didn't give up. Didn't even WANT TO! With AP's, coaches that constantly energized me and gave me tough love I moved forward, into my second challenge!
That was a game changer for me. It changed how I thought about myself, others and put all my destructive habits into focus. I realised so many things about myself and the people in my life that I had to make a stand - I finally had the courage to stand up for who I am. To be ok with and actually proud of myself. In my culture and with my upbringing - that's not a given. I connected with people who were striving to do the same thing - while in different situations of life - and it often felt like the coaches lifted us through it - I knew I wanted to be a part of Quest and find my new pace of life.
It's been 7 months since I started. It's been the best year of my life so far and I'm 47! To this date I've lost about 44 lbs and countless inches and SO many bad habits. It's not been a straight road, life seldom is, some days I don't take care of myself as much as I should. But if there's one thing I've learned in this journey it's that you don't quit - you learn from it and then you move forward. And you do it with LOVE, darn it!!!!
